Seven family members killed as car falls into canal in Meerut

Meerut: At least seven members of a family today drowned in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut district when a car in which they were travelling in turned turtle and fell in to the Gangnahar canal in Meerut, police said.

Harinder Nagar, a resident of Gautam Budh Nagar, along with family, was on his way to Haridwar to take a dip in the river Ganga when the tragedy struck, a police officer Sumair Singh said.

While bodies of Suman (22), Manju (28), Rashi (3),and Uday (3) have been fished out, efforts are on to take out other bodies as well, police said.

Except for the car driver Harinder, who escaped unhurt, all the car passengers died.
