A day after start, Murray beats Cilic in straight sets


London: Britain's Andy Murray Tuesday defeated Croatia's 16th seed Marin Cilic in their rain-interrupted fourth-round match.

The British fourth seed won a closely fought first set went 3-1 up in the second before heavy rain stopped play late Monday.

The match resumed on Tuesday, but the pattern hadn't changed and last year's semifinalist swept his opponent aside to win in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2, 6-3.

In the quarterfinals, Murray will face Spain's seventh seed David Ferrer, who made short work of Argentina's Juan Martin Del Potro to win 6-3, 6-2, 6-3.

Elsewhere, Germany's 31st seed Florian Mayer made it through to the next round by upsetting Richard Gasquet.

Mayer who won the first two sets in less than an hour before the Frenchman, seeded 18, took the third set just. But Mayer turned it round to record a 6-3, 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 victory and set up a quarterfinal with reigning champion Novak Djokovic.
