Indian medal hope Saina Nehwal is through to the quarter-final at the London Olympics 2012. She beat her opponent Jie Yao of the Netherlands in straight games 21-14, 21-16 to win her round of 16 match comfortably in the end.
Saina began on a strong note and soon raced off to a 11-5 lead in the first game. She never gave her opponent a sniff and won the first game 21-14.
The Indian then again started off well in the second set and raced to a 5-1 lead. This is when the Dutch player fought back and leveled in the second game. They went neck to neck for quite some time before Saina hit back with vengeance.
For the Indian, it was a mere formality then as she overpowered and out-manoeuvred her Dutch opponent. She took the second game 21-16 despite a come back of sorts from Jie Yao.
She now faces either Denmark's Tine Baun or Japan's Sayaka Sato in what will be her second consecutive Olympic quarter-final which is scheduled for Thursday.
