President congratulates Sushil, Yogeshwar on winning medals

New Delhi, President Pranab Mukherjee today congratulated grapplers Sushil Kumar and Yogeshwar Dutt on winning the silver and bronze medals respectively in the freestyle wrestling event at the London Olympic Games. "Both the wrestlers have made the country proud," Mukherjee said in his congratulatory message. Sushil settled for a silver in the 66kg category after being outclassed by Japanese Tatsuhiro Yonemitsu 3-1 in the gold medal bout today. He became the first Indian sportsperson to win back-to-back individual Olympic medals, having won a bronze at the Beijing Games in 2008.

The 29-year-old Yogeshwar, who injured his eye during the bouts, displayed stupendous power and stamina right through the day before prevailing over North Korea's Ri Jong Myong 3-1 in the third round of repechage to win the bronze in 60kg wrestling last night.
